I would say that your whole premise of keeping the clubface square to the
ball until it reaches waist level is fundamentally flawed. The path travels
in a circle (or an oval, anyway), and the face should remain square to its
PATH. To keep it square to the ball (or to the target line) while the head
travels along this oval path would require some kind of active manipulation
of the head's orientation by the hands and arms, which is a big-time no-no.
