The adjustability issue is less important than what it once was, as manufacturers are using a softer steel in their cast heads, a version that makes them about as adjustable as the forged clubheads. The PC-III's are like that, for instance.
Any explanation why my forged Titleist forged blades from 20 years ago are much less scratched and worn than my 1 year old forged 804OS Cavity backs? Did they use better steel 20 years ago? Or was that a harder steel? Both are forged... but the 20 year old blades seem so much more impervious to damage.

Very likely that the more durable set was hardened after manufacture. Forged steel without any heat treatment will be very soft, and post- heat treatment is entirely optional.
