Because of directional mikes and other technology the scrutiny Tour
players are under is more intense than ever before. Even if bad behaviour
was caught on tape back in the 50's-70's it probably wouldn't have made it
to television. Other than as word of mouth like the stories above, the
laundry just didn't get aired then like it does now.
Here's another one about Ken's hero, Jack:
The fellow I take lessons from was a junior in England and he caddied for
some pro in an exibition match Nicklaus was involved in. He says Jack
marched around the course with a grim scowl fixed on his face and hardly
said anything to anyone all day. It's true he didn't swear exactly, but
this kid idolized him at the time and his behaviour was a shock.
I think sometimes it's better not to meet your heroes...
