The hospital in which I was born was torn down when I was still a kid

was torn down and replaced about 10 years ago...the High School I
attended is no longer a school..and I'm not sure what they use it for
now...Now today I have learned that this year will be the final year
of existence for my Junior High (They call it a middle school now).

I have been *extremely* nostalgic lately--I think it's just part of
growing old. I have these kind of mini-flashbacks of experiences from
my childhood (good memories) and try to remember how I felt at that
particular time...just to reaffirm that my memory is still there.
heh   My elementary school was the same one my daughter attended in K
and 1st grade. It was so eerie walking her in...then walking out and
seeing my old childhood home to the right of me. I felt like I was
transported back to age 5... I think I wish that I was a kid again,
way too many times.

Yeah, I'm kinda going through the same thing right now....I went to my
son's classroom last week and they were handing out "Weekly
Readers"...I hadn't even thought about that little paper/magazine
since I was a kid and I didn't even know it was still around.  When I
read in the paper this morning that the last thread (landmarkwise) to
my K-12 education was going away it made me a bit sad.

Did you smell the Weekly Reader?  ;-)  I'm telling you, I know it's
some kind of imbalance. I'm very much a "smells memory" person...it
can trigger the best memories for me.  Growing old sucks.

I found this cool website of 50s ad art and sent it to my brother. The
ad of the Good Humor man handing out ice cream bars, fifties-style,
was especially poignant.  http://www.plan59.com/main.htm

I didn't smell the Weekly Reader, but I know what you mean about smell
memories...every once in a great while I'll smell something that
triggers a memory that I hadn't had since I was little and it's really
a strange feeling....I think the last time that happened was when I
smelled a candle at Hallmark or some mall store and it brought back an
Avon memory from the 70's...remember those little balls that you used
to put in the bathtub and they would dissolve?

The Church I went to through first grade had a beautiful, small
sanctuary lined with cedar planks.  Whenever I smell cedar, I am
instantly transported back to that church.  I have not actually been
inside that church for over 20 years.

Walking into a hotel room next to a pool = Every family vacation I was
ever on.  :-(

Hearing the song "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell takes me back to
the backseat of our old station wagon headed to the mountains of
Colorado.

First one to spot the mountains gets a dollar!
