If you read the article carefully, it's obvious the study is a
bunch of crap.  It makes all sorts of unjustified assumptions.  For
example:

According to the liberal = open-minded, conservative = conformist
equation, conservatives should go for the first joke, which is
traditionally structured, incongruity-resolution humor. Liberals
should roll on the floor laughing for the second, which is more free
form and ambiguous.

Huh?  Says who?!?   Why should political leanings translate, in
an apples = oranges manner, to an unrelated topic, such as humor?
Also:

But across the board, conservatives are the group comedians would want
in their audience, not liberals. Says Ariely, "I was surprised.
Conservatives are supposed to be more rigid and less sophisticated,
but they liked even the more complex humor."

They cite as "more complex humor" the absurdist Jack Handey "Deep
Thoughts" stuff on SNL.  What scientific criteria are they using to
define "more complex?"   Since when is absurdism "complex?"  Any idiot
can string together a bunch of absurd non-sequiturs--why, just read
rsfc for an hour and you can see that much.

I will agree with one thing--right wing people tend to snicker
about politics a lot more than left wing people do.  They often
mistake making a clever, cynical remark with making an actual logical
argument.

And your argument is neither.  Just a poor self gratifying rationalization
to spin the logical conclusion that liberals lack of humor.

Now that remark indeed *was* funny. Even Enright admits the
study was a bunch of subjective crap.
