Sorry... just plain disgusts me, is all... particularly from someone who heads up any sort of athletic program. I mean, seriously, how the Hell does he have any credibility in the living room at all?

By most accounts, it isn't just a matter of him eating too much. He works at keeping his weight down (exercise and diet), but is a person for whom it is easy to pack on weight. I'm not saying he couldn't do better, but there are some people who are overweight who try very hard not to be, I can't imagine that Mangino's weight is simply due to eating too much, given how regimented he is in all other areas of life. If nothing else, he absolutely has 100% respect from his players. The kids will run through a wall for him, which is why the 'hawks have steadily gotten better since he arrived.

There are also reports he had lap-band surgery this summer in an effort to help him slim down as well. It's a bit hard to tell, but it looks to me that he has dropped some significant weight based upon his face and body.
