------------- This is definately just the start of what will happen after the elections. Joe knows he's screwed. We couldn't officially kick him out of all functions and out of his leadership post after the 06
elections because we needed his vote to control the senate. but in 2
months, even under the worst possible scenario, the dems still pick up
3-4 senate seats and do not need joe in the slightest.
This is a sign that the morning after election day, harry picks up the
phone and says "hey joe, we've decided to strip you of any and all
leadership positions you have in the senate."
I'd say his switching parties in January would probably
accomplish the same thing.

It would be fun to see him as a Republican pariah, instead of
a Democratic one.

one reason joe may not switch over to the gop(and hell I hope he does
because in a few months we certainly wont need him anymore) is because
joe is all about getting the most possible attention and coverage as
he can get.....for joe.  And a republican senator with some democratic
views in a chamber where its 55/45 in the dems favor doesnt generate
nearly as much talk as a independent democrat who has some republican
views where it's 55/45 in the democrats favor.

You get the impression that all 55 are always going to vote with the
others, don't you?  You're really showing your youth and inexperience
here.  It just doesnt' work that way.  It does when it needs to, but to
get anything accomplished, there is always a lot of give and take, no
matter how it's weighted.

(sigh)

you're really showing your lack of reading comprehension. All 55
*will* vote the same way when it comes to who controls the senate, who
will control the committees, etc.....of course all 55 democrats
wouldnt vote in lock step(although close and maybe on some issues) and
neither would all 45 republicans.....but a 55-45 margin gives us
plenty of breathing room to bend joe over for the stuff that people do
tend to vote lock step on.

No, it doesn't. The senete is made up of 100 individual centers of power, unlike the House, where party affiliation matters more. The senate is full of wanna be presidents. The Joe haters would have to get their hate to the floor - which you seem to think is a something easy to do - that Joe couldn't trade away for a vote on applying landmark status to a pizza shop in Poughkeepsie.
