My favorite part:
QUOTE
Google's claims to be legally allowed to photograph on private roads
stems from its assertion that privacy no longer exists in this age of
satellite and aerial imagery.
"Today's satellite-image technology means that...complete privacy does
not exist," Google said in its response to a complaint filed in April by
a Pittsburgh couple that sued Google when photographs of their home
appeared on the site.
END QUOTE
The "satellite-image technology" in question involves (a) taking
photographs while either (b) walking or (c) driving. Yeah, those are
three modern satellite-image technologies, all right...
I'm also thinking that Google lawyers could start acting as defense
counsel in certain murder cases. I mean, consider the following
eventuality:
Google's lawyers' claim that their client was legally allowed to shoot
and kill the victim stems from its assertion that personal security no
longer exists in this age of handgun technology.
"Today's weaponry means that...complete security does not exist," Google
lawyers said in defense of their client, who shot and killed John Q.
Public in front of dozens of witnesses.
I have mixed feelings on this. Yeah, Google's arrogance rubs me the
wrong way. But on the other hand, I betcha you can go to the website
of the tax assessor in any of the complainers' counties and get better
pictures of their houses, with details on size, value, features,
layout, etc plus maps to them and how much they paid for them, etc --
private roads or not. I know it's available for all the counties
around here, even the backward-ass ones like mine. For example, just
to bring this back to semi-football related:http://services.wakegov.com/realestate/Account.asp?id=0019514&stype=o...
(though I think the mailing address may need to be udpated, heh)
That address is pretty funny.
It's still empty. The lights are on every night. The lawn is mowed.
It gets cleaned regularly.
Somebody just a cut a big driveway next door, right on the property
line and took out part of the fence. Maybe O'Brien is moving in the
neighborhood.
