No, not really.

Christ, man, are you trying to single-handedly verify every joke
written about an Aggie, ever?
Sure it does. It also helps a virologist, a bacteriologist
ummmm......these(for the most part) aren't
clinicians/md's/do's....... no doubt the "theory of evolution" is
relevant to some etnernal post- doc sitting around in his wet lab
all day, but for an infectious disease specialist in clinical
practice, not at all(at least in terms of his understanding of it)
, and just
about everyone working at the good ol' CDC.
The theory has great utility, which is all one can hope for with a
theory. That says nothing about it's objective Truth.
ummmm...great, but it really isn't important for a physician to
know.
I think it's impossible to understand the increasing
bacterial resistance to antibiotics without at least
acknowledging evolution.

no, not really. Just keep up to date with the latest treatment
protocols, know what bugs are more sensitive to what drugs w/ patient
x and conditions y, etc......

A doc who doesn't understand that antibiotics should be
prescribed only at real need due to bacterial evolution
isn't likely to alter old habits.

Then that physician is not practicing the standards of care which are
taught during medical school and residency. It has nothing to do with
learning about evolution.
