If you had a son who, if they joined the military, would become
an officer and would spend all 20 years in. If they didn't,
they'd get a college degree and get a civilian job, maybe move
away, maybe not.
Would you recommend the military or the civilian career?
I would recommend the son gather as much information as possible
about both paths (and help him to do so, if asked), and then
encourage him to make up his own mind. And then I would support his
decision 100%.
If he asked me for advice, I would give him a pros-and-cons, as
balanced as possible, and then encourage him to make up his own mind.
And tell him that I would support his decision 100%.
