I bet that Caroline Kennedy is among the short list of VP candidates
under consideration. Like Cheney, headed up to lead GWB's VP search
and ending up choosing himself, I think she could be the dark horse of
the search. (So could Colin Powell, btw).
She's young but not too young (50 or so), a woman, a boomer, and fits
Obama's stated goal of rising above political divisions:
From Wikipedia: "She is one of the founders of the Profiles in Courage
Award, given annually to a person who exemplifies the type of courage
examined in her father's Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name.
The award is generally given to elected officials who, acting in
accord with their conscience, risk their careers by pursuing a larger
vision of the national, state or local interest in opposition to
popular opinion or powerful pressures from their constituents."
I wasn't going to say anything about her until you included the
"Profiles in Courage Award" bit. Just to be clear, the award is
given to people who have the listed attributes, but they also must do
so in support for a liberal cause.
Recipients include:
1999: John McCain and Russ Feingold (for the bi-partisan McCain-
Feingold campaign finance reform). Ironic?
2001: Gerald Ford for his pardon of Nixon and "putting the country
first."
And BTW, Caroline Kennedy...really? Experience? How does the most
liberal Senator picking an extremely liberal woman overcome a divide?
By posturing her as someone who is not polarizing, but rather
uniting. She's well known and well-liked, though admittedly people
don't really know much about her.
Experience, no, not really. Obviously I'm going out on a limb with
it, but if it happens, I called it!
