The mistake you are making is arguing with an anarcho-capitalist..
Without dumbbass gov't subsidies, the above argument vaporizes
like so much bull*** in a blast furnace.

<You have a point. But thats not the country you live in presently..
Right. I'm trying to change that.

Put another way -- given the assumption that it is okay for the US
government to provide subsidies for domestic liquid fuel, I think
that subsidizing ethanol from corn is a dumn way to do it.

<Sure - got alternatives that work now?
Hemp and hemp seed oil. More seriously, and not that hemp doesn't
have potential for tobacco farmers, coal conversion. And this guy
may be onto something:

Very much RSFCC,....

As for hemp - absolutely there is a lot of potential. But it's not
ready NOW.
Look - I'm NOT supporting ethanol - hate it and not defending it.
Just saying that we can't wave a majik wand and replace the ethanol/
biodiesel production with alt fuels without some time delay.
Furthermore, just as with ethanol/current biodiesel, beware of
unintended consequences - let's not forget that ethanol was seen as a
panacea for the huge surplus of corn threatening to bankrupt the US
farmer....hemp too will have it's own issues as will any other tech.
Does this mean we ought to stay the course with ethanol? Heck no.
How long have I been railing to get rid of the subsidy and/or tariff?
Just trying to be realistic about possible replacement fuels.
There are soooo many promising sources of energy out there - from wind
to tidal power to alt fuels - yet change does take time and subsidies
screw things up by promoting one industry over another when the
marketplace would tell us something different.
