There are lots of great small towns that 98% of the country's never
heard of and wouldn't waste a second of their time upon... so what?
Not the point, for me. I enjoy learning as much as I can about other
regions and places and the people. It frustrates me, and irritates me
to see people that "think" they are enlightened, but with absolutely
no interest whatsoever in knowing anything about the middle of their
country.
I know EXACTLY what you mean... it's one of the reasons I don't mind a
particularly long drive through what most people would consider the
middle of nowhere. You get to stop in lots of those places along the
way. In this vein, you may enjoy a book by Bill Bryson called 'Notes
From A Small Island'. It's about England, but it's a good read.
