Yeah, it's just a good excuse to be able to watch my favorite show at
work. But still, I think there's a lot that teens can gain from this
particular show.

To teach you have to get their attention. They bore quickly with the
same old methods. Star Trek is entertaining and a good teacher can
find many valuable lessons to use as instruction.
Spock was the most capable and intelligent - why wasn't he the
commander of the ship? Their answers might be interesting.
How does the mission of the Enterprise differ from our participation
in Korea, Nam and Iraq?
Did Kirk ever violate a superior's orders? What conditions must exist
for that to be proper?
A good teacher can let students divert him from the subject for a few
moments - then he can develop a way to use the diversion in his plan.
That can even be done in a math class.
