I'm personally not surprised that Paul would be 3rd after Edwards and
Obama since I'd seen before that I'm aligned with him on issues such as
the Patriot Act.
Of course, I feel spending needs to be increased since many bridges need
to be replaced since unlike many, I'm convinced that another Minneapolis
will occur unless we work on the infrastructure.
Similarly, something must be done about the electrical grid to prevent
another serious blackout.
Unfortunately, people prefer to engage in platitudes and sound bites
since bridges, highways and the electrical grid do not rouse voters like
abortion or immigration.
If the feds concentrated their efforts on the infrastructure and defense,
I wouldn't have a problem with them. Then again many infrastructure
issues could be handled just fine at the state level.
IAWTP.
I don't understand the idea that spending must be increased to address
infrastructure issues. If the Feds concentrated what they are
supposed to, you could cut taxes and we all could have are very own
bridges to nowhere.
While I'm sympathetic to this view, and I'd probably also agree that right now there is too much spending on social programs (and not enough programs/incentive to get people off the social programs), it's also not clear to me that you can sustain a large society with *no* (or minimal) government-funded social programs. That would especially include education, but probably also some others.
