The great majority of citizens of any country have little or no
importance except as noise makers. Powere resides with a few. The
people who matter, those in power, got their wish.
Which makes your initial point in this subthread stupid. How many
of those people who matter were killed by the nukes?
It diesn't matter since they got our drift.
That type of morality was behind the 9/11 attacks. There are betterIf this was a debate I would support my position much better. As it is
arguments you could make if you didn't enjoy killing people so much.
I merely voice the consensus of WWII vets - dropping the bombs
shortened the war and saved many American lives. The cost to Japan has
no bearing except perhaps to people who have no knowledge of WWII
other than what they read in history books.
Again, you're completely ignoring the Japanese people whoIt had no bearing in August, 1945. The US as a whole, and certainly
died, many suffering greatly. Why does that have "no bearing"?
the troops and sailors at the front, didn't care much about Japanese
casualties....especially when American casualties were involved.
You're forgetting the thread just as much as Hugh. Here's
what he said:
"Those who are not happy are those who were not there."
I pointed out he was wrong, there were an awful lot of people who were
there who were not happy. For this subject, it is completely
irrelevant how many people WERE happy about killing Japanese civilians.
one I have met is/was happy the bombs were dropped. You threw in the
feelings of the Japanese, which were irrelevant to the original
context.
Then Hugh shouldn't make such sweeping, grandiose statements
that he doesn't mean. He seems to still mean them, even with
the broader context, though.
