The great majority of citizens of any country have little or no
importance except as noise makers. Powere resides with a few. The
people who matter, those in power, got their wish.

Which makes your initial point in this subthread stupid. How many
of those people who matter were killed by the nukes?

It diesn't matter since they got our drift.

That type of morality was behind the 9/11 attacks. There are better
arguments you could make if you didn't enjoy killing people so much.

If this was a debate I would support my position much better. As it is
I merely voice the consensus of WWII vets - dropping the bombs
shortened the war and saved many American lives. The cost to Japan has
no bearing except perhaps to people who have no knowledge of WWII
other than what they read in history books.

Again, you're completely ignoring the Japanese people who
died, many suffering greatly. Why does that have "no bearing"?

The point is that I'm not ignoring the people who died at Pearl or
would have died in an invasion of Japan. In comparison you'd better
believe I'm ignoring Jap suffering.

The goal of saving thousands AMERICAN lives was more important than
all the Japs..

The bombs were the only guarantee of a quick solution.

When one does a 7 Dec 1941 the goal should be to annihilate, not play
patty cake.
