1) Per the article- "John Gomez Jr., 39, a Pechanga member since
childhood, was kicked out in 2004. He said gambling profits were one
factor: He lost free health care and a $15,000 monthly payment"
15k a month to do nothing but simply be "part of a tribe"? Dang,
that's more than many professionals make for working a full time
job. I didn't know some of the payouts were that comfortable.
The most socialist places in the USA: Indian reservations.
The poorest places in the USA: Indian reservations.
Most of them are poor because the US Government releaged them to
shitty land. The reservations in Wisconsin are largely located on
lands that you really can't do anything with.
And they have to stay on that land why? They are poor because they
have for generations done nothing with their lives but drink and
smoke.
Dude. 1883 called for you. It wants its racist stereotypes back.

Dood. South Dakota called. It wants you to climb out of your shell
and travel before you post idiocy like the above.
Dood. There are a lot of poor places in the US where
people drink that have nothing to do with Indians. But
some people desperately need their stereotypes. . .

And yet another comment from someone who hasnt been there in person.
I'm not saying your are incorrect. I'm saying you can make
the same charge about every race and ethnic group in America
at some place or another. This is simply the group you choose
to hate.
The main reason reservations are so rsfced-up is that they are so
often run like mafia families. You can't open a business without
making the proper tribute. Nothing happens on a reservation without
1000 government/elder blood-suckers getting their piece. The issue of
crappy land is bogus, how many RSFCers live on crappy land and are
doing fine? This is 2007, not 1888, you don't need to till the land
for your food. The best thing that could happen to the Indians is if
all reservations were closed tomorrow.
And the "They are poor because they have for generations done nothing
with their lives but drink and smoke" statement is, relative to other
groups, spot-on. But it is mainly due to the fact that there exist no
reason for them to do anything else. The government and the tribe
have them so under the thumb, what's the point? Another example of a
minority group being "helped" by a government who can't but screw-up,
hoodwinked by a leadership which has an interest in preventing things
from improving while at the same time glorifying a past that wasn't
that glorious and blaming their problems on everyone but themselves.
Good luck fixing that mess.
