Re: anderson's look back on the college football weekend......

First, a quick recap on how I felt about my plays:

first the good:
1) ND came through for me. At the end of the first half I was pretty
down on them(0 pts against the purdue defense?), but then they rallied
back and it turned into the game I thought it would(ie ND scores
enough to get a fairly safe cover). Weis had me freakin out when he
started going for it at his own 27 on 4th and 5 down 20 pts or
whatever, but fortunately they hit the big pass and that pretty much
sealed it.
2) Clemson came through for me in their loss. I've stumbled upon
something with acc games this year that others haven't figured out-
there are no "tiers" in the acc this year, so take the home
underdog(who is likely just as good as the ranked road team). People
want to believe there is some difference between VT, Miami, Clemson,
GT, Wake, UVA, Maryland, etc.....there really isn't. They are all
just "there", and if vegas continues to act like one of these teams is
significantly better than another I'll just keep taking the pts and
the home team. Easy money......
3) UCLA came through for me. Got off to a 14-0 deficit and I was only
getting three, so thank god they turned it around. And this was a big
play too.
4) And of the course the WVU-USF game that has already been discussed.

Now the bad:
5) That's the last time I bet on PSU this year. It had "sucker bet"
written all over it(PSU giving three on the road?), but I couldn't
resist. It's good to know that after three FIU-type games though that
jefferson's "questions were answered" as he had no problem placing
them in the top 5 because his "questions were answered".
6) Why can't wisconsin cover a measly td at home against bad(Iowa, yes
Jb I said bad) or mediocre(MSU) teams at home? I expect top ten teams
to be able to cover a td at home against these type of teams. This is
the second week in a row they've been unable to do this.

Comments on other games:

Maryland at Rutgers- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I got a kick out of this
one. Rutgers opens their 2007 season with a home loss to an acc
bottom dweller!!!! Too funny. The cool thing about the bigleast is
that all three of the "bigthree" coming into the season have losses,
and in 2/3 of those cases perrenial bottom dwellers from other
conferences delivered the blow. Now what games does this conference
have to look forward to- USF and Cincy on a wednesday nt on the
deuce???

Auburn at Florida- HUGE loss for florida, because it totally ruins
their realistic chance for another mnc shot. The most realistic
pathway they had to get their was LOSE in br next week, run the rest
of the schedule, and then beat LSU in the rematch and there not be two
other unbeatens. That was really the best scenario for them to get
there, and it's way too unlikely they can beat LSU twice now.

Clemson at GT: Not an upset....next.

Cal at Oregon: was a really interesting game. Too bad for most
college football fans not on the west coast nobody got to see it
because they were watching Clemson or rutgers or whatever. Big win
for cal as it's on the road and they were 6 pt underdogs. This was a
minor upset given the situation(certainly bigger than clemson or PSU
losing on the road).

USC at Washington: blah game. Score closer than the game really was.
John David booty has not impressed this year.

What do Duke, maine, temple, pittsburgh, and akron all have in
common? The five worst teams in college football this year? Well
no(well actually maybe they are). They're the five opponents Uconn
has opened the season with!! amazinbgly, they almost managed to lose
to the temple owls!

OU at CU/Kstate at Texas: I'll deal with these together because
everyone else seems to be doing this. Colt MCcoy is obviously going
backwards, and really when you think about texas' struggles this year
it's not a new thing. As I mentioned before, they weren't very good
*last* year. As for OU, I wasn't as high on them as others were, but
of course I'm surprised they lost the game. They were getting too
much buzz based on a home win over miami.....

My rankings after week 5:
1) LSU
2) USC
3) Cal

-obviously all three of these teams now clearly control their own
destiny. It's looking like LSU has a semi-decent chance to run it
because they've already got two big hurdles(VT and South carolina) out
of the way, but the road to going unbeaten in the sec is paved with
potential potholes that can take the air out of your tire quick. As
for USC, they've got an even harder road than LSU left just because
their hardest games left are on the road.

4) tOSU- why not? Gotta put someone here.
5) Wisconsin- see #4.
6) Oklahoma- I know I'll take some crap for this, but Im not prepared
to rank undefeated teams like BC, USF, Ky, etc above Oklahoma and
florida just yet.
7) Florida
8) Oregon
9) BC

that's ridiculous. Who has BC beaten to earn a #9 spot? Where's the
signature win? Hell, they almost lost to 1AA UMass yesterday for
cripe's sake. If you're throwing BC in your Top 9 (ODL!) then you
should really expand your rankings to a Top 10 to include USF.
