That's an odd sideline for you to say, unless you think that besides
needing to tithe, you need to let Falwell and Robertson steal the
tithes.

Who said that a church can't conduct business.

I'm pretty sure Jesus beat some ass over that one, actually.

by business, I meant the conduct of day to day operations. the paying
of rent, utitities, feeding the hungry and <gasp> paying the pastor.

I think you have missed the point of that Bible story, if you think it
wasn't about daily operations.

I think you are wrong.

I'd hate to think that you'd try to weasel and say that,
whatever he's talking about, it doesn't apply to (most)
modern Christians, since you don't have temples.

If you don't weasel like that, I'm not sure how you
would weasel to say Jesus was NOT talking about profiting
from religious business.

What I understand from his comments is that as long as the church
isn't operating for the sake of profit for profit's sake (i.e. it's
using whatever moneys raised for the operation of the church and the
church's good works), then that is definitely NOT the equivalent of
the money-changers and marketers in the temple which Jesus *did*
condemn.

I agree.
