Sendek won something?
tubby won something beyond his first year after inherited a team from
pitino that was favored to win it all?
1) Yes, he won multiple SEC championships.
some years with less than stellar teams......winning an sec
championship some years is an accomplishment of questionable value.
And you've got to differentiate between tourney titles and regular
season titles....I've seen some smith defenders lump one in with the
other(both ways)....
2) Kentucky wasn't favored to win it all. They were a #2 seed during
the year that everybody said there were only 4 teams on a championship
level - the 4 dominating #1 seeds: Duke/UNC/Kansas/Arizona.
Well the line on the duke game was a pickem iirc.
And tubby guiding his team to a 2 seed perhaps speaks to tubby's
abilities.....
Yes, to his good abilities. Check out the talent on the foursome:
UNC had Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, Shammond Williams (all '98 NBA
draft picks), Duke had Roshown McLeod ('98 NBA pick), Elton Brand (#1
pick in '99), Trajan Langdon, Will Avery, and Chris Carrawell. Kansas
had Raef LaFrentz, Paul Pierce (both extremely high '98 draft picks),
Ryan Robertson, and Arizona had Mike Bibby (#2 pick in '98), Miles
Simon, Jason Terry, and A.J. Bramlett. Even Utah had a lot of NBA
draftable talent - Michael Doleac, Andre Miller, and Hanno Mottola.
Kentucky had Nazr Mohammad, Scott Padgett, and Jamaal Magloire. Not
shabby, but no way does it match up in talent to the Big Four from
that year. Go here:

and try to convince me otherwise.
