So you essentially pay a sin tax and get out of jail for your
carbon emissions. So does that mean that as long as you have
the money, you can do what you want? Where does the real
sacrifice come in that Al Gore wants you to do?

That last question is legitimate, and I would ask
it myself. But that doesn't mean that offsets are
nothing more than mere "sin taxes."

But if you are rich enough, you can continue to do as you wish if
you just pay some extra money.

Hasn't that always been the Republican mantra
about everything?

Actually its for a small government that lets people keep their
money to spend as they wish or save as they wish.

There's no sacrifice there. If Al Gore wants
to preach this, he should practice what he preaches
himself.

Which is what I've been posting all day.
Especially in his position, offsets alone just
don't cut it.

Particularly if your carbon usage is going up each year in the case
of the Gores.

What's your evidence of that? Did wingnuts steal more than one
year's electrical receipts from the power company?

The report I saw stated that Gore's annual usage had gone up.

And I'm asking, what was the source of the information? Was it
stolen, too?

If the information was stolen, then shame on those that stole it. That
still doesn't change the fact of Gore's hypocricy. Please don't try to
shift the discussion to deflect from this.

Nor does it demonstrate Gore's hypocrisy. Nor has anybody here,
despite me asking them to do so.

yes they have: gore said that we should all reduce our carbon footprint
as much as possible,

I haven't seen Gore saying that, yet.

his "office" said it, which counts as gore saying it unless he releases
a statement saying they mis-spoke.

That's weird. You and Gysin and others are telling me he says it
all the time, then you can't find a single example for me?

then buy offsets to account for the rest.

since living in a big mansion obviously isn't doing "as much as
possible",

You are assuming a certain definition of "as much as possible" which
you are not stating

i did: about half way between a monk's cave and gore's mansion.

and in which you assume that Gore agrees with you.

i've tried to give gore the benefit of the doubt by assuming he's merely
a hypocrit instead of being guilty of having a self-serving double
standard.

he also has previously said that conservation in electricity usage is
the 'low hanging fruit' of what we all can do to reduce warming. since a
huge electrical bill at the domicile doesn't comport with this, he's a
hypocrit x 2.

How is his electricity produced?

? gore says that we should all conserve electricity first,

I don't believe you.

then do the
offset thing. it's laudable that gore is buying green energy, but the
earth would be better off if he bought *less* of it, and with good
reason: if gore stops heating his swimming pool (or whatever), that's a
real reduction in carbon emissions. offsets are iffier which is why
enviro-types argue about their value.

If his electricity is nuclear, how does heating a swimming pool
release carbon emissions?

perhaps if all of this could be portrayed in a clay sculpture, a
histogram, or a digital photo it would sink in ... ?

Perhaps you could fill in some of the details I've been asking
for.

your 'details' are red herrings and have all been easily explained away.

You are running and whining. I've asked a simple question, and I'm getting
a little suspicious with all the lame answers I've gotten.
