Sorry for the Google post. As I said, my noosereader is borked til I
can call them and find out why.
School shopping this weekend, with a daughter that doesn't like to shop
and isn't really into clothes at all. I'm the kind of person who likes
to take people shopping and help them buy things, bring them clothes
that will look nice on them, etc. IOW, my guy friends like me to take
them shopping. heh Anna, however, doesn't care. This is pure hell.
But this weekend the salesperson actually put together an outfit for
her that she was excited about and really loved. Getting excited about
clothes is a rarity for Anna. Unfortunately, it's a "throwback" to
something *I* would have seen in the 80s. Ankle tight glittery
stovepipe type jeans tucked into black studded "scrunchy" boots, black
and white striped "mod" top, little black vest, black belt. Very
bold.....edgy....sorty of Pat Benatar looking. Not that this surprises
me. If it's one thing I've learned about my daughter is she likes
bold, not girly.
Unfortunately, the salesperson that was helping her was a guitar
playing chick.
6th grade starting in a week (first day of school outfit,
naturally)..... and I'm trying to learn how to "let go" a little and
give my daughter "freedom of expression" within the confines of good
taste and propriety (eek.) This could be....interesting. And I'm not
sure if I like it..... why couldn't I have given birth to a hippie like
me?
You have to remember the first rule in adolescent attire: it isn't any
good unless it pisses mom off.

Heh! When I think back to when I was a pre-teen....teen......I wore
whatever I liked, if it was trendy. I didn't dress to look sexy. I
remember being the first girl to get a bob haircut, a sailor shirt, a
prairie skirt, to wear day-glo, to "punk out" my hair, to wear a
bandana around my neck with a leather jacket a la the Stray Cats....
crap, the 80s really sucked, fashion-wise. Anyway, I don't think my
parents ever got pissed off at my clothes, except for when I tried to
wear a tube top to school under a button up shirt in 8th grade. That
was *thee style* to wear....tube top, shirt over it and tied at the
waist, high heels and designer jeans.
I'm glad I didn't take any pictures then.....
