Re: DeLay's redistricting (mostly) upheld

Minun olisi pitänyt tietää, olisi pitänyt tietää,
olisi pitänyt tietää KUKA SINÄ OLET, xyzzy:
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this Supreme Court decision (or if
they did, my google groups search did not find it).

I'm a partisan Democrat and I hate Tom Delay and what he did in Texas
but I do think this is the right decision. Partisan redistricting and
gerrymandering is a long American tradition that has been found legal,
if not very pretty, time and time again. The Constitution, by giving
it to the statel legislatures to do, clearly meant for it to be this
way. We can't outlaw it just because the other side figured out how to
do it better than us this time. We just have to start doing it better
than them again.

The only objection I ever had to it (aside from minority
voting rights) was the fact that they did it out of
order. There was a process in place and they blew it
away. That's a recipe for even more chaos. Although I
dunno, more chaos in Tejas might be a good thing.
