Austin sheltered a ton of evacuees. Our mayor and associated hangers-on
did a fine job. But I wonder if our 500 is equivalent to 4000 for Dallas
- they're not eight times as big and they certainly don't have 8 times
as much money per-capita.

More important would be getting the suburbanfucks in places like Plano
to pull their fair share, I think.

The faith-based organizations in and around Dallas will probably step
up in the event of an emergency. Houston and Houstonians should be very
proud --- 27,000 people and nearly 60,000 volunteers. And Dallas can't
step up and do the right thing? For shame.


So let me get this straight. At the height of the Katrina disaster
Houston housed 27K people, but you have a problem with Dallas (a city
one third the size the city of Houston) saying they can't handle 40K;
and not just normal folks, but those with special needs? Dallas
doesn't have an unused, domed football stadium lying around.

During the Katrina/Rita evacuations, our Plano based church geared up
for action. We had procedures, we had supplies, we did training, we
were ready. How many people were sent to our church? Zero. In
McKinney, a few hundred volunteers fitted out a recently vacated
Wal-Mart for evacuees. They put up temporary walls and bathrooms. The
scene of dozens of eager suburbanfucks fawning over 15 or so evacuees
was comical. If Houston has to evacuate, we suburbanfucks will do more
than our share.

Yeah. You'll skim off a few dozen able-bodied refugees with cars, and leave the expensive transit-dependent unemployable ones for the city that just happens to also have a lot less money to spend on them than you do.
