today's "investigations" will be as pointless and futile in terms of
revealing "big oil conspiracies" as those in 96 were.
oh wait a minute, the "point" is for polticians up for re-election to
signal the voters that they are "doing something" about high gas
prices.
ok, it worked then, it might work now. LOL.
How about checking out those automobile manufacturers? The price of autos
in real terms has increased more than oil has.

Within the last six months, I'm not really sure when, I was getting gas at
my local Chevron for $1.999/gal. Today it sits at $2.929. That's a 46%
increase being pumped into billion dollar profits.
The U.S. manufacturers, meanwhile, have been cleverly diguising those
billion dollar profits as billion dollar losses, the little dickenses.
Seriously though, I paid $20k for a Camry LE V6 2 1/2 years ago. MSRP on
the same car is at $23k now, meaning I could probably pay the same that I
did then for the country's best selling car.
I also paid $14k 9 years ago for a Chevy pickup w/standard transmission.
They've monkeyed around with the product line, but a very similar version
now MSRP's at $18k, with an automatic.
The top end may have gone off the charts, but most vehicles are selling for
what they have been selling for, until you tack on navigation systems, dvd
players w/ thx sound, and all the other useless luxury items.
