I honestly won't think much of him.....good or bad. Despite the career
win total, OSU was hardly a basketball mecca and in all that time he
never even made a championship game in all of his years......you would
think you'd at least stumble into one along the ways. He's also the
only coach in modern kentucky history to not get them to a final four,
and he didn't exactly leave that program on great terms.

I think taking OSU to two final fours is a rather remarkable feet
considering how bad they were for most of the two decades previous.
But that shady side of him always will keep him from being mentioned as
one of the truly great coaches.



I think you are right about his son not being there long. He hardly
seems like the kind of guy who should get to "appoint" a
successor...especially a son. Let's reserve that kind of honor for the
giants....Sutton is certainly not one.


It is hard to find good successors to legends though. Good coaches
generally will not succeed legendary coaches, so you appoint a
sacrificial lamb. Like Mike Davis (ironically), Bill Guthridge, etc.
