It is pretty clear that he should not be prosecuted. It was a hunting
mistake where the victim blamed himself. I see no problem with a short
investigation, a fine for not having the right tag, and letting it go.
What I don't understand is why Cheney didn't just come out right away
and say "Here's what happend, I feel terrible, I hope my friend gets
better." I don't understand why they are dragging out the story by
keeping details under cover.
The one thing I know about public relations is that if you come out
with bad news immediately and up-front, you are generally given a
break. Covering things up only makes them worse.

The exact same thing could have been said about Lewinski. I'm not bringing
Clinton up to say he was worse. But had he nipped it in the bud the second
the story was to break, it could have easily dissipated. Apparently its the
modern politician's SOP. Although not reporting for 24 hrs!= coverup, he
could still have limited potential embarassment by admitting what was going
to come out eventually anyway, apologize in public, and then perhaps make a
self depracating joke about his aim.
If Clinton had come right out and said that he had an affair with
Lewinsky as soon as the story broke it would have been just as much a
circus as it already was - of course there would have been no
impeachment proceedings as there would have been no need on Clinton's
part to lie. As far as this Cheney thing goes, I think the press -
especially the White House Press Corp is making too much of this...Of
course we don't really know all the details yet which is why asking the
question "When is Mr. Cheney going to resign?" is stupid. It was a
hunting accident and it sounds like Shooter and Shootee are both to
blame. Didn't this accident take place in the morning??? I doubt
Cheney was drunk.
My theory is: You put a gun in the hand of millionaires who only seem
to be able to hunt farm raised game that's fenced in and eventually
they're going to shoot each other.
It's amazing to me that the press is going wild over a hunting accident
and it's basically Ho-Hum as far as the Valerie Plame
leak....especially now when we find out that Plame was working on WMD
in IRAN!!!! And Scooter Libby has now said that the leak originates
with Cheney.
