Although I have never hunted, I did take a gun safety course years ago.
As I recall from way back then, it is ALWAYS the shooter's
responsibilty to know who or what is in the vicinity when he is firing
a weapon.

However, Scott McClellan, White House press secretary, was very clear
in placing the blame on the shootee rather than the shooter in the
Cheney incident Saturday. He said that the guy was negligent for
failing to have announced his location before Cheney wheeled around and
shot him. Cheney was apparently hunting with four others, three of
whom were walking with him when the shooting occured. Have the rules
of safe hunting evolved over the years, or was it in fact Cheney's
obligation to know where hunter #4 was before he squeezed the trigger?

You do realize that it can be Cheney's fault even if the other guy
screwed up? The victim screwed up by not following hunting etiquette
(not to mention common sense)...you should always announce your return
to the party if you've wandered off. Still, Cheney pulled the
trigger...tunnel vision when he was aimimg at ther birds is not a good
excuse......

Besides, the guy didn't exactly wander off for an
hour for a day hike or something. He went to retrieve
the friggin' bird he'd just shot. He never really left
the party in any meaningful sense.

I haven't seen how far/how long.....even 10 minutes is more than
enough. It doesn't really matter if he was gone 5 minutes or 5
hours...he should've announced his presence....

Oh come on. He announced he was fetching his
bird. He didn't really "go" anywhere. He was still
on the range and the hunting party should have made
allowance for him. They knew where his bird fell
and he was only going a very limited distance to get
it and would be going and coming back on the same line,
so they had no business shooting in that direction
AT ALL.

This guy's been hunting for years, and he didn't
"announce" himself (after not really going anywhere
in the first place). What does that tell you? You
think he just suddenly forgot how to behave on a hunt
after hunting all his life? Yeah right. He "admitted"
it was his fault because he is a good GOP party soldier
and he wanted to bail out the VP. But he didn't really
"go" anywhere off the range, it's not like he went
on some nature hike or something. He went a few scores
of yards to pick up his fallen bird. He was still on
the range and the hunters shouldn't have been shooting
in his direction.

I'm glad you were there. I'm glad you know the lay of the land, the
vegetation, etc. The timeline, etc....you have no idea what went on,
but you've made up your mind what happened... how fair and open-minded
of you. Obviously, Cheney is evil, so he planned the whole thing.

Planned it, eh? Now you're just being a total idot.

Just extrapolating from your idocy.

Oh sure, that was a logical extrapolation. Not.
Try to stick to the "idiocy" I actually poast, thanks!
