The people who create and pay for the AM/FM radio signals (and TV
signals) intend for me to receivem and use them. The neighbor with the
open wireless router does not intend for you to use it(*) and does not
benefit from that use . As a matter of fact you are reducing the
neighbor's available bandwidth. It's not that hard a distinction to
make.

(*) assuming it's not a honey trap and the neighbor is actually
monitoring everything you send over his connection and getting identity
and CC info to steal -- wouldn't that be ironic! Of course if it was
you'd be OK with it because you were transmitting that info over radio
signals that are ENTERING HIS PROPERTY!!1!!!!!

What if, instead of hacking the satellite provider's equipment, people
buy or make their own hacking equipment from someone else? Would that
make it OK?

That's a stupid non-sequitir. I pay for the pasturized products I use.
the makes of those products paid for the pasturization equipment and
the use of any patents, if any, on the process, and what I pay to them
reflects, in part, that cost.
