It seems that all I can find on ESPN, Fox, etc. are limited offensive
statistics on collegiate teams

Google, as always, is your friend:

http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/stats

I was thinking about doing an analysis of yards/points allowed per
minute of opponents' time of possession, (which might reveal which
defenses are penalized by being left out on the field too long by
crappy offenses) but I don't have the patience to sort through several
hundred box scores to get the TOP stats.

Hmmmm, what possibly could've been the inspiration for such a stat???

Am I that transparent?

Anything to boost the statistical dominants of the 2005 jayhawk D is a-ok with me. Can we throw out the UT game as well since it was an obvious anomaly?

I need a research lackey. Or maybe I could figure out a way to make
this a for-credit internship. Hmmmmmmm.

Go for it! Institutions give credit for a lot less than this with "internships." It would probably help if you had a better facade, like working for the NCAA or in some sort of stats-oriented industry.

I could become the W. Edwards Deming of the real estate bidness!
Metrics out the wazoo! Better management through a compilation and
analysis of statistics on light-bulb life, furnace filter saturation,
and plumber/electrician/HVAC guy response time! And then I'd sneak in
a little football analysis on the side.

Sounds like a plan.

You could start out interns with "an exercise to familiarize you with excel."
