How can we get rid of the ground tap in (2) while still
providing an unambiguous indication of WHERE the disc will
be put into play?

a bunch of them make a line...and at the least, two of them cones make
a line.
the path of the disc is a line.
where they cross is where the disc should be put back into play.

leaning down to tap the disc on the ground....ain't determining if the
disc is being put into play at the proper spot of not.
if the thrower leans down and taps the disc on the ground in the wrong
spot.....not matter if everyone knows he's starting play or
not....violation!
no matter if there are field lines or not.

chad seems to think the ground tap is a matter of WHERE to put the
disc into play....and David seems to think the ground tap is a matter
of everyone knowing WHEN the disc is being put back into play.

i say.....I'M gonna know when and where the disc is going to be ?back
in play? because i'm a responsible teammate who pays attention on both
offense and defense.
I'M gonna know where the disc should be put back into play.....my team
or their's.....lined field or not.
I'M gonna know when the disc is going to be put back into play....my
team or their's....lined field or not.

aren't YOU(all of you)?????

I'M going to call violation if the thrower's at the wrong spot if
they're an opponent.
I'M gonna make sure my teammate is in the right place...and not 15 or
60 or 5 yards in the wrong place before putting the disc into play.

The ground tap doesn't make anything better.
it doesn't prevent someone from taking the disc to the wrong spot....
and there's no reason to announce to anyone else when the disc is
legally put back into play...especially the D!
