Re: Business as Usual in 2012? [Skyd Magazine]

I like the comments under the article by BW......
this one in particular....

~~~~~~~~
one goof writes something pretty stupid....
"-Work with UOA? Not a chance I'd support that. That's a group that
solicits observers days before an event. Their training is going over
hand signals in the parking lot. You can't tell me that an untrained
and inexperienced observer is any better than having the opposing team
making calls."
~~~~~~~~
and DDay or DDan(sorry) counters with

Actually, it is. Especially at the college level (never played UOA
Club), which is prone to players either abusing the rules or refusing
to back down from bad calls. UOA observers are not dramatically
different from USAU observers; they keep the flow of the game going,
make it possible for players to maintain focus on the field and
definite eliminate those "bad blood" games we've all allowed ourselves
to be embroiled in.

Is the UOA perfect? Of course not. But, outside of the criticism
levied at Gerics personally, I do believe that every observer who
shows up for them is intent on improving the on-field experience for
all teams. It works, and I wish we had them at every college
tournament.

i love that reply DDay/DDan.
UOA training is MORE than going over hand signals in the parking
lot....not sure why or where that notion came from.
We have plenty of literature and an entire set of rules that we
disperse to our crews and new officials....we even have an entire
officials manual.
and...hand signals tell the story....but we have plenty of
philosophies and methods that we teach as well.

i have a guess....but can't be sure why someone would make those dumb
assumptions.....and this quote in particular is pretty dense.... "You
can't tell me that an untrained and inexperienced observer is any
better than having the opposing team making calls."
not sure why some joker would write that.....when we've gotten nothing
but RAVE reviews from every event we've worked....and from Tiina Booth
herself!!!!!

Feel free to NOT support the UOA working with the upsa....because i
doubt it'll ever happen.....but the rest of that dumb shit you
wrote...was some dumb shit!
