Re: HOW TO DEAL WITH THE SHORT SUPPLY OF OBSERVERS?????

$10 a player will not ruin the growth of the sport.
Your tournament dues were $30 last year without observers.....you are
going to pay $40 this year with observers....I would do it, and bet a
large amount of players would do it.

In a lot of cases it will be more than $10. Rec leagues have more
games than a tournament, so the added cost would be closer to $25.
Will people pay $50 for a league that was $25 last year? Some will,
some won't. Will a new college team pay an extra $150-200 on their
team fee for a tournament? Some will, some won't.

On the other side of the $10, a TD doesn't just write $1600 in the
budget, and observers show up on Saturday morning. How many TDs of
smaller college or mid-level want to have to recruit, hire and manage
20 observers for a tournament? How many rec league organizers want to
do the same logistics? The question is not only will the players pay
but whether the organizers will do it.

You have to pay to cover the cost of referees in any adult/college
recreational/club sport, and millions of people do it every
year....soccer, softball, baseball, kickball, flag football, etc,
etc,......WHY CAN THIS NOT HAPPEN IN ULTIMATE?.

True, but you don't expect lot of training for a college flag football
ref. And most of these rec refs are not traveling to ref games. And
people simply expect refs for these kinds of games, as they are
designed to be refereed. Ultimate is designed to be unofficiated, so
observers at every game at every level will seem superfluous to many.

Elite players will pay extra for observers (and do at most tournaments
already), but you have to demonstrate their value to convince players
at all levels to pay and make the effort to get them.
