Well said.

My memory of college ultimate is that pretty much every tournament
mattered.  We wanted to win every game we played in.  Every tournament
was a season onto itself.  Of course, we had our eye on the prize...
Nationals

but when ya put too much focus on all the prelim spring tournies it
can often come back an bite you in the ass......like if ya peak too
early (like the 89 seamen that went into regionals ranked 1 in the
country and didnt even make it out of a 3 bid region.......when
nationals only had 12 teams).

....but every tournament mattered... every game mattered.  If
you don't have that attitude, then no matter the format (C1's or
UPA's) your team is not going to advance very far.

well this is kind of my point. during that 89 season ecu was a mess
and we owned them all the way up untill sectionals. so obviously some
games and tournies matter more......a lot more.
-----------------------------------------------------------

That being said, the college scene is much more geographically dense
than it used to be, so I'm sure there is a better model out there for
college ultimate than the current one, although the current one has
served the sport well.  I'm even more sure that the C1 model is not a
better one.

well it (C1) was obviously better to the teams that initially commited
to it and backed it. And if not for all the external preasure and
exclusivity it would have been still in tact.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm even, even more sure that it would take a roomful of
really smart people lots and lots of meetings to work out all the
details of a better model.  I'm not talking about the basic idea; I'm
talking about all the details.

well i was gonna say......"dont we have a board that is responsible to
do just that".........then i read it again and noticed that you said
"smart people".
------------------------------------------------------------

It's all about the details, and the details always get you.  I'm sure
Skip and Cyle are great pitchmen and deal makers, and Ultimate could
certainly use some pitchmen and deal makers, but it's going to take
more than a couple of those types to re-construct the collegiate
competitive structure and manage it effectively.

This stuff is a lot harder than people realize.

i think its actually a lot easier that people realize but they/you
convince yourselfs its so hard and you just dont make the effort to
begin with.......kinda like the whole ref issue.
