This is only true if you played UPA sanctioned (the actual text says
"national governing body") events while in High School... something
you obviously don't have to worry about if you have never played
ultimate before. Furthermore, if you played sanctioned events in HS
and graduated HS after 2002, your college eligibility doesn't start
until the next year, unless you play during that year.
It's "national governing body" to prevent foreign players who play
ultimate from having 5 years of eligibility. Imagine if some Buzz
Bullets or Thong players came to grad school anywhere in the US.
