What do you mean by the 'spread'?

To me, that's like saying the passing offense in football or the dribbling
offense in basketball. To say that players are evenly distributed around
the field is a spread is fairly vague and most 'spread' offenses that I've
seen are not very effectively using the advantages gained by having a
balanced attack.

In the beginning, most offenses were 'spread'. Then at some point in the
80's came the stack, the scourge of the earth.

Is anything that is not the stack, a spread?

I really enjoyed taking in some College action this weekend at UNCW.
Good play, good athletes, and good sportsmanship.

I noticed a lot of the college teams are playing the spread offense,
which I have mixed feelings on and would love to see a elite club team
put in action and see if the result is any different.

The thing I noticed was it seems to be all about risk/reward on O and
D. Poach and you either get the D or get smoked long. On Offense, it
looks like it is setting up for the big pass, which in college
ultimate ain't always a sure thing.

Now, we instituted the spread in our league play two years ago and
thoroughly confused opponents for the first part of the season until
they figured out how to cover it. While some aspects were effective,
it allows greater risk. A lot of lateral cuts where the defender has
a better shot of getting some kind of position on the receiver. I
think Ultimate has a lot to do with angles and putting the disc in the
right spot so the receiver can shield a bid from the defender with
their body. I saw more lateral cut layout D's than I've ever seen.
Maybe led the receiver more, but if the defender has quick burst, they
can still get position. Maybe some of you 21st century elite types
can explain the advantages of the spread in concise manner.

Frank you are so out of the loop.

Your lack of knowledge about contemporary ultimate make your
criticisms all the more funny.
