Care to summarize? You seem to ask each candidate separate questions.
yes....answer all of them proposed to each one.......feel free to keep
it short and to the point though.....and just reply on that thread if
you want
have you tried dischoops?
Yep
what's your take on that sport.
I think it is far superior to Ultimate
what do you think ultimate could do to help maximize entertainment valueimpact on the media.....
and make a real
abolish double teams, picks, put a hard cap of three steps for traveling,
out of bounds means out of bounds (no pivoting or momentum O.B.), 10 yard
endzones, 30 seconds between points, abolish 'boxiing out', add tipping,
delaying, air brushing, add fouling out, eliminate the continuation rule,
eliminate disc starts in the middle of the field (side out for all
restarts), no getting up after laying out or falling down until after you
throw the disc, jump passes legalized, etc.
and in order to maximize sponsorship opportunities how would you better
market ultimate as a commodity?
That's a tough one. Even with all the above changes made, one teams learn
how to play the game, it's pretty simplistic.
------------------------------------------------------
so what are you gonna do as a upa board member to push for ncaa varsity
sport status?
Hit the reset button. Basically my platform is based on going back and
validating 30 year old assumptions. I'd like to know why is double teaming
illegal. I'd like to know the reason for the pick rule (many people insist
that it is because it's not fair on the defense). I'd like to know why it's
legal to pivot out of bounds. Who made this stuff up? Is there any record
of the decision making process that went into the creation of this game to
validate whether or not they got it right?
Face it, Ultimate Frisbee was a science experiment. The sport was created
to be an anti-authoritarian counter culture sport and a lot of thought went
into producing something that could stand on it's own without referees. Did
they succeed in their ideals? I think no.
Until the reset button gets pressed and we truly Revolutionize the sport,
talk of NCAA or even TV is premature.
and if part of achieving that goal means getting refs into the comp will
you still support that transition?
Again, the reset button needs to be pressed here Todd.
----------------------------------------------------------
.do you mean in the way observers are referred to?
Observers are a band-aid on top of a band-aid on top of a band-aid.
if so what's your stance on changing observers names to something that is
more accurately descriptive,,,,like referees?
I loathe the concept of Observers. Either there are refs or there are not.
..or even officials.....and putting them into striped shirts already?
No zebras Todd.
-------------------------------------------------------
how would you reach out to get the best/most accurate needs and wants
assessment of the upa membership at large in the most efficient, effective
and cost effective manner
Frankly, I'm not particularly interested in the UPA membership at large.
Before you get your panties in a bunch, allow me to explain. I believe in
leadership for the UPA. Something the sport has never had. Someone else
mentioned the governing body of Volleyball so I'll use that. Does the
governing body of volleyball cater to ever tom, *** or sally or do they
govern?
That said, I am interested in others opinion. I just happen to think that
the democratic model of the UPA is upside down.
and what criticisms do you have about how the ult rev was implemented (dont
be a company man now)?
------------------------------------------------------------
So, what were your feelings on the rules and rules process of the MLU comp
during potlatch in 06 and have you ever had a chance to play, witness or
experiment with refs in ulty
I think it was a joke. No offense Todd.
My feelings are this. The ultimate community can be compared to a bunch of
kids without parents who have been self-parenting for all these years.
Given that, they haven't learned how to even play the game very well nor do
they understand what's best for them. Voting for Frank is like voting to
end summer vacation. Who's going to be willing to do that?
The minor tweaks put into NUA and MLU were cosmetic relative to the amount
of changes required to make the game consumable as an entertainment vehicle.
if not, why.and what's you overall stance on refs?
refs rock.
------------------------------------------------------------
what are your feelings about a semi pro type singular game league
established in the nw (much like the major league lax genesis) with all
the bells and whistles of other professional fan friendly sports
Hit the Reset Button first Todd. I've watched Sockeye-Jam and many other so
called top level games. I find it incredibly unwatchable. You're really
putting the cart before the horse here trying to take the current product to
market.
would you consider being part of such an endeavor?
not at the present for stated reasons.
--------------------------------------
how would you go about improving the ultimate experience at the sectional
level and how do you get input from the silent majority on how they would
want things to be run by the upa?
Sectional level experience can be improved by a) roster limits of 17 per
player b) a short season for seedings (3 weekends) c) abolishment of mixed
division. Coed Ultimate is like coed hockey in my book. NorCal had 24 open
teams a few short years ago and now only have 8-10, this is due mostly to
mixed.
Silent majority? Answered above.
-----------------------------------
first off whats with the dames terminology
dunno
and why mention your team name (kill your lanlord)....
Cause I'm lame
anyway as a lawyer what is the importance to you, of the upa to establish a
risk management program.....and.....how would the notion of promoting and
propagating
a division of comp in which slower, smaller and weaker females are competing
on the same field as their faster, bigger and stronger male counterparts in
a sport where, due to the nature of the game, collisions are frequent AND
there is already, without disproportioned competitors, an inherent danger to
the game in which the upa acknowledges the risk of death fit into that plan?
I believe that the UPA is exposed here, and not just because of the co-ed
factor.
and what could/would be the legal ramifications to the upa if a female were
to die from a collision with a man if the family of the deceased wanted to
pursue it to the full extent of the law?
The UPA carries liability insurance $1,000,000 for each player. I doubt
that is enough given someone getting killed but I'm no lawyer.
