Re: Motion Offense, Snowboarding & Billy Berrou is in the House

Uh, I heard "Plinko" was a joke. Not like, a joke of an offense, but
actually a joke that someone just made up and it never existed. I
might be wrong.

I have used the push off as you describe it (AC/DC into catch,
balanced for next throw, without traveling), since my first year of
playing ultimate. It seems to be a pretty common move, although I am
even one of the rare players (I think, in my limited observations, I'm
probably wrong) that uses it both forehand and backhand. Also, I have
somehow managed to NEVER get called for a travel, using it probably
once or twice a game on average.

However, it is by no means "THE" move, the one that can revolutionize
everything. It work really well against pretty decent defense. Against
good or elite defense?? Bit tougher to pull off.

Why is it harder to pull off? For one thing, better defenders are able
to center their bodies on a thrower more, cutting down the useful
angles to push off into. Also, a good defender will recognize the move
as it is initiated and, assuming they can't realistically contest the
throw, will jump in front of the cut, thus stymying the cut before it
even gets started.

So, as you quote:

"It is really unstoppable. "

My experience says that is not true. If you run this move succesfully
more than twice against a reasonably intelligent defense, they will
make minor adjustments to stop it. Many defenses already have these
adjustments already built in. And it is no big deal.

About the AP: Useful place to start from, but limited. There are a ton
of throws you can't make from that position, throws that I personally
like. I usually set up from a stance such as you describe, but often
alter my body position in ways that I CAN'T push off from, but that is
ok, because it is to get off a throw to a teamate in a superior
position or to gain yardage. THere is no need for me to be able to
push off when a teamate is already cutting for the next throw, I can
fall on my *** if I want and the offense will do just fine without me
for a few seconds.
