Re: Kleinman Results?

First off I'd like to thank all the teams that came from so far away.
I know there are several NW tourneys in a row, and it makes me happy
that you would choose to come to ours. We do our best to make sure it
is the tightest run tournament you can find, and that every team feels
like the tournament was run for them, not just as a vanity for the
winning team. Hopefully every team is already making plans to come
back next year.
I'd also like to thank the local teams for your help in making things
run smoothly. Thanks for your volunteer efforts, Laura and I can only
be in so many places at once.

I hope everyone enjoyed the party, and the surrounding party area. I
think that space is great and wanted to show off a little bit of what
Portland is really like instead of hanging out in some shed in the
middle of nowhere.
Did anyone take advantage of the special doughnuts? Nobody challenged
me in Sinistar, so I just played a couple games of pinball at Ground
Kontrol before I went home. The rest of my team did hit up the strip
club and stayed up until after 4, so I'm proud of the other teams for
not following their lead and lowering the entire level of play on
Sunday.

Extra info was the belated half time show of a 5ultimate spelunking
contest. Jackie from Shadrach beat Sam from Parts Unknown in a
thrilling battle. Probably because she had practiced before. Video
is being edited as we speak and will be uploaded when available.

Now to answer questions about my reseeding and Sunday brackets.
Two divisions of 15 allowed for the top teams to play 4 good games on
Saturday, and set themselves up for a Sunday push. Then a bottom pool
of 15 that would not force a "just for fun pickup team" to face a team
practicing for Nationals. I felt there was a clear top 6 teams at this
tourney going in that had a chance to win it all. Then there was a
second tier of 12 or so teams that would all be able to give each
other a serious challenge, and 12 other teams. So on Sunday my plan
was to have 8 team brackets starting at quarters to give every team
tough competition all day.
There should be 3 reasons to play ultimate at a tournament.
1-to win it
2-to play equal level teams and find out about your team's ability
3-to have fun spending time with your friends

If a team couldn't win on Saturday, there was no need to reward them
with top placement games on Sunday. If a team did great on Saturday
against lower competition, I just moved them up to play equal
competition on Sunday. Any team that goes 0-4 on Saturday isn't going
achieve goal # 1, so I gave them a chance to get #2 and #3
accomplished instead.
All 3 teams that got moved up a notch won their quarters game (Classy
was never really ranked that low, they were just kind enough to give
up their last round bye so One Mississippi could attend a wedding)
making their promotion seem pretty deserved. Finally, my last goal
was to not have a single team play a rematch on Sunday, and that was
best achieved by having teams gravitate toward a new bracket. Dan,
please don't think of the Sunday brackets as forcing you to call
yourself as the 17th place team, you're obviously not.

Several teams did not report their scores on Saturday, and that is why
you can judge things by point differential after the fact. For
example, if Schadenfreude had reported their scores, they would have
been in the top 8, but I can't read minds.

If you have any Sunday scores to report into the UPA site, please do
so. I had to make sure I got things cleaned up so the soccer league
could take the fields over and I was unable to record the results I
would have liked. Those scores are very helpful for your sectional
and regional directors in order to make the UPA tournaments get seeded
as accurately as possible.
