so to turn things around on you, where is the logic in letting a team
take second that lost in the semi's and has a split head to head
record? explain that logic. why do they need a second chance?
I've answered this question many times in many ways, sometimes by
actually listing reasons. You could look them up; I've given you
links. But since you probably won't bother, I'll just regurgitate the
simplest reason:
The semifinals were a game to reach the finals. The 2/3 game is the
game to go. You play the format. Whether it is a rematch or not
doesn't matter. You play the format. The winner of the 2/3 game
finishes second. No exceptions.
So your argument is "because the format says so"...
No, because:
- It is merely one of many arguments. I tried to give you the
simplest one. Again, look up the others. Do you really need me to
list them all here for you to respond to?
- That's not what I said. What I said was that each game has a
specific meaning, and that beating a team in a game where the winner
reaches the finals is different from beating them in the game to go to
nationals.
I don't want you to list your reasons, be assured I read them in the
past, and probably remeber some of what was said. I still don't
accept these reasons, and still feel the format is flawed. I still
feel re-matches should not have to take place and I feel the format
should reflect that.
I get the feeling that this is the impasse we are at and further
dicussion may not be of much value. I understand your reasoning and
feel it is flawed.
Of course it dosn't always prove that out, assuming you think there is
some true ordering that we are trying to reveal by playing it out.
But does NOT playing a rematch consistently do a better job of
revealing this true order? Before you say yes, you have to consider
all of those gamesmanship/fairness scenarios I have brought up before.
I'm not saying there is a clean true ordering. I do feel that not
playing the re-match does 100% of the time give a more clear result.
fairness and gamesmanship are awesome. we should aspire to those
ideals. I still think that there is more logical certainty for not
playing rematches to determine seeding. I fail to see where
gamesmanship or fairness enters into the equation.
