Re: Strauss Canada Cup

Hey, I just realized Kelly Scott is not in the Canada Cup. How is it that the Canadian Woman's Championship team two years running doesn't get a qualifying spot? What in the world are the organizers thinking of.?

I see on the men's side Jean Michel Menard qualified because he won the Brier in 2006 but Kelly Scott won the 2006 "Scott" Tournament of Hearts.

Another question: what did Sherry Middaugh win to qualify? Or for that matter Joel Jordison, whoever he is and no slight intended. I just never heard of him before.

How come Glen Howard and Pat Simmons didn't qualify somewhere along the line? Again, because of my ignorance, how do you put a Joel Jordison ahead of Howard or Simmons?

I mean, here is the 2nd biggest event in 2007 for which you can win a berth in the Olympics playdown and some big names are missing.

Any comments?

Hi Ken,

The Scott rink are representing Canada at the Women's Worlds in Japan. That starts March 17. So that spot goes to Sherry Middaugh. See here: http://teammiddaugh.blogspot.com/2007/03/headed-to-canada-cup.html. There was a controversy at the end of last year about the Middaugh team. Somehow the CTRS points got posted wrong and it looked like they qualified for the last Strauss spot. But they actually missed out by a fraction of a point, and the CCA had to call them up and tell them there'd been a foul up and they didn't have a spot. Here's a link to the wrap-up of that: http://www.curltv.com/news/curltv/?id=350.

Sadly, it looks as if you have to be in the USA to get any Worlds coverage online during the week. Saturday's semi-final and Sunday's final (Mar 24 and 25) will be on CBC. NBC will probably have something for those in the USA. Nothing on TSN (because the women are not in Canada?), and nothing on CurlTV. It's unfortunate.

However, there's lots of Strauss coverage online at CurlTV, and those finals will be on CBC next weekend, so that's something. And I guess someone will have the men's Worlds, since that's here in Canada?
