yuk, hope you're ok (I'm not even sure what an orbit is, but it sounds
better intact)

I've played about 20 years of cricket now, and thank goodness I've
never been hit in the head.

The orbit is the roughly spherical piece of the skull that your
eyeball actually sits in behind the socket. The eye socket is quite
thick but the orbit is a bit like an eggshell and fractures quite
easily because the force of an impact on the socket travells back into
the eye like a wave. It's all healed up OK though and there's no
lasting damage.

I had 22 years of cricket before that (my first hit on the head) so
you might just be about due for one (although I wouldn't wish that on
anyone). Best to buy and wear the helmet before that happens. I've
seen plenty of other guys get hit over the years - including top edges
- and thought it was never going to happen to me.
