What I meant was a *rooting* interest - which is very different,
surely? Just being intrigued - sure, a sort of desultory thing.
But an active interest where you root for your team, root
against the other teams, watch with passion etc.. thats a
different matter, no? If there had been a usual Bombay side,
with the requisite 4 overseas stars or something.. I think
most people could have gotten into it a bit. But a team in
which your best players (who have played for you for 10+
years, from the U15 days) are playing *against* you, with
strangers playing for you? I dunno what sort of a rooting
interest you can have with that -at least for me.

As Modi said the other day "My City, My Team" - that should be the
spirit. So what if a few guys who used to play for the city team in some
obscure tournament earlier aren't with us anymore. This is a new
beginning. Old associations don't matter. Those guys are to be
considered traitors now. If they really cared for Bombay, destiny would
have ensured that they were picked up by Bombay :-)

Look at me. We have got a crap team, to match the crapiness of the city.
But still got to love it (both the city and the team) because that's
what we have. I will be there for all seven matches, if nothing else but
to shout "Fuckface hai hai" as he goes to collect the loser's cheque :-)
But ofcourse, easy for me to say that as I have been preparing for
this for last five years. I tried to prepare you guys too, but no one
would listen. Don't worry, you will get used to it in a couple of years
time.

Exactly,
Team Rooting is an acquired taste anyway. You 'plant' a couple of
hate stories and create an us-vs-them theme and you reel in the
audience hook-line and sinker. It is all about drama. If IPL can
manage to create it, they can do away with International teams all
together. You may never get the Sadiq's and Holmans of this world, but
they'd have lost them in the T20 transition anyway.
