But the point is, why was there so much cry about the alleged ball
tampering issue and this is just a funny incident?
Perhaps because Darrell Hair was not standing in this match, and the
umpires therefore were not officious bastards with no sense of
proportion?

I dont understand what it has to do with the umpires. All I am asking
is, why do *some people* see this as a funny incident when they
thought the *alleged ball tampering issue* was a crime, cheating,
illegal, illegit(which it was).........

I think most Indians on this news group are offended that this happend
to their team while most english people are all defensive and want to
pass this off as a prank. I just wonder if the roles were reversed and
if an Indian was caught playing this so called prank what kind of
reaction/treatment he or the Indian team in general would have
received? I suspect all those Desi baboos who are trying to be
defensive about this calling it just a prank would be the first ones
coming out with long tirades against this act trying to distance
themselves from the Indian "race" as far as possible..

There's no place for pranks on field during a test match. Whoever the
jokester was (or were if more than one doofus was involved) needs to
own up, and accept whatever punishment is handed down. If my boys did
this to an opposing batsman during a game I'd be furious with them for
showing a lack of sportsmanship and disrespecting the game. I see no
reason why any player, regardless of nationality, should be allowed to
get away with stupid behavior on field. Moores and Vaughan need to
take whichever idiot(s) it was aside and tell them to grow up now, or
go home to county cricket if they think their county captain would let
them get away with this kind of adolescent stupidity. I bet whoever
did it wouldn't have thrown jellybeans had it been a "real batsman" at
the crease like Dravid or Tendulkar. Maybe Zaheer shouldn't have waved
his bat around at Pietersen, but I certainly understand and agree with
him expressing his annoyance at the repeat performance of the "joke"
being played by someone who probably though he was being a pretty
clever ***.
