India furrows a lone path

I am happy with the Indian board's statements so far.

Nevermind the dramatized title to that article, the Indian board is asking
for heavy penalties for *both* umpires and teams that refuse to play in a
scheduled match. For the Pakistan-sulk episode, the BCCI will go with
whatever ICC has to say about it.
The message is :
Let the ICC sort out the current mess. We do not want any future money
making matches to be discontinued as forfeits unless the match referee says
so. And if any team or any umpire wants to sulk, they should be made to pay
for it. In other words, Sulk on your Own Time (SOT).
A thoroughly businesslike strategy for future matches. Those of us opposing
the attempt by Pakistan and its supporters to get away with ball-tampering
and the logical and legal aftermath of their own actions, have been saying
something like this for a while : if you do not like the forfeit rule,
change it for future, but do not crucify a good umpire for applying it. And
the Indian board is wisely silent about ball-tampering - in other words,
they want to leave the power to make that judgment in the hands of the
umpires.
I do not think that Pakistanis can really count on India's support in this
mess they have landed themselves in. Had Dalmiya and his ideologues been in
charge, that might have been a foregone conclusion, but the current admin
is interested in one thing only - making sure that the cash flow keeps
going, and a sulking team refusing to continue a match does not make money
for the boards. Even otherwise, I think it was quite presumptuous of
Pakistanis to expect our support so quickly after murdering some 200 people
in our financial capital.
With time and with proper financial inducements, the position of the Indian
board might become more positive for Pakistan, but it ain't so right now.
Meanwhile, Paji can keep his dreams of unconditional BCCI support for
Pakistan to himself.
