C&G Final

It's the C&G Final on Saturday, though I shan't be going myself. In
the olden days, the last Test was on the August Bank Holiday and we
had the knockout Final the following weekend, during which the
selectors would meet and announce the tour parties the next day. So it
was always a good idea to play a spectacular innings or take a bunch
of wickets in the Final because you might just get the last place on
one of the planes as a result.
This year, we have Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell and Ashley Giles being
released from the Test squad so that they can play in the game. But
that doesn't mean a notable performance in the Final has to go
unnoticed. What effect would it have, I wonder, were Shane Watson to
score a hundred and take 4-31 for Hampshire on Saturday, especially if
he managed to have Ian Bell play a really nervous-looking maiden
before getting him out on the sixth ball?
Cheers,
Mike
