First of all, let me correct an obvious error. He lost one for every
four that he lost, not for every one that he lost.
Simple mistake, no problem.
You backed your opinion up, true.
Thank You <grin> You backed yours up as well. No doubt.
However, you did not convince me to
believe any differently than before.
You didn't convince me either! I still think Giardello is better. More wins
and a better win %. Also, Joey was a champion and ducked nobody. Not saying
Zale did, but Joey belongs in the upper echelon of middleweight history IMO
I would rate Zale (as well as Ketchel and Cerdan) well above
Giardello.
Loki
That's your opinion and I respect it, but Tony Zale never beat a "Sugar" Ray
Robinson. Even at 42, Robinson was VERY capable and dangerous, just like
Bernard Hopkins! <grin>
Take it easy,
Scar TKO

First , let's just say that Giardello has won 101 pro fights
(impressive
for any fighter).
He also lost one fight for every one he won. That is pretty shabby for
an all time great...
C'mon Loki, you have to do better than that my friend. You act like Tony
Zale won more fights than Joey (Giradello won more), and you act like Zale
didn't lose 18 times (he did). Do the math yourself Loki, Giradello has a
better win % based on wins and losses than Tony Zale!
If you would like to do the math, consider that for what should have
been his five best years, from when he was 27-32 Zale was not fighting
boxers, he was fighting Germans in WW2. Considering that these are the
prime years for most fighters, I cannot help but conclude that he
forfeited a great many victories by not boxing.
Zale fought better opponents than Giradello. He beat better opponents,
and he lost to better opponents.
Guess what Loki, take a look = Tony Zale was (67-18-2), less wins than
Giardello and 18 losses, that's pretty shabby for an all-time great!
<sarcastic grin>
See above.
Joe DiMartino was 14-13-3 when he beat Joey. Gene Roberts was 1-11
when he fought him to a draw. Roy Wouters was 25-12-2 when he beat
him. The list is a long one.
What's your point? Zale was stopped and lost to guys with those same
credentials. He was blasted out in 1 round to a club fighter. Can't say
the
same about Joey Giardello.
Overall I would rate the quality of Zale's opponents better than those
of Giradello.
Also, Giardello beat "Sugar" Ray Robinson, period. Who cares about his
age?
So you must consider Leon Spinks and Trevor Berbick to be all time
greats since they beat Ali?
Ever hear of legend like George Foreman, Larry Holmes, and Bernard
Hopkins?
Guess what, they got the job done at that age and looked pretty good in
doing it.
Look at them. As well as Berbick and Spinks (see above), I guess that
we need to add Oliver McCall, Brian Nielsen, Shannon Briggs, and Tommy
Morrison to your list of all time greats based on their abilities to
look good while beating old men.
I think I backed my opinion up <grin>
