It's amazing how we all depend so much on electricity. For my 50th, a few years back, my wife took me to Manhattan for touring, dining, and a couple of Broadway shows. We arrived on a Friday morning and walked around for a while and then decided to go back to our hotel near Times Square to change before heading out again and dinner at Mario Batali's restaurant in Greenwich Village.
And then someone pulled the plug on NY for a couple of days.
It was amazing, the next morning and we walked around the city. They had pretty much sealed off the island to traffic and hardly anyone was around. Sort of like "I am Legend." We bought a couple of cups of coffee from a guy making a pot over a sterno can.
Hang in there Ratchet.

Maybe it was Deja Vu or just good Karma but 2 weeks ago I attended a.
deceased cousin's family sale of all their belongings and I happend to
notice this like new ( if not new)Homelite 4400 watt 8 H.P generator
sitting alone all by itself in the corner looking like nobody loved it !
When I inquired as to he price I was told to make offer so I jokingly
replied $250.00 and was stunned to hear him say "OK".................he
told me that the generator was used once ...for about 5 hours....
I live in southeastern Ohio out in the country (boonies) and we lose power
out here all the time , Christmas 2005 I believe we spent 5 or 6 days
without juice then and I live in an all electric home
Xmas dinner was 6 packs of Ramen Noodles cooked over the top of my
kerosene heater lol ...
It was actually one of the best christmas's we have ever had believe it or
not ! The whole family gathered in one room ( the warmest one ) around the
fireplace and we slept on mattresses on the floor and actually spoke to
one another instead of playing video games ,watching TV and goofing around
on the computer....
I knew that that generator would come in handy one day I just didn't
figure it would be so soon , I needed gasoline and a few more extension
cords , this one has 8 regular outlets and a couple 220v I think ? I got
the fridge and freezer going , hooked up the satellite and 2 tv's , 2
floor lamps , a toaster then I also recharged the batteries of my laptop ,
cell phone and battery jump pack w/ a 12v converter on it that I lit the
garage with !
I am trying to stay prepared for power outages , That generator came in
handy but the tough thing was finding a store to get extensions cords to
hook up everything and also trying to get GASOLINE !!!!!!!!! I must've
went through 7 or so gallons of gas a day , Its a good thing I laid off of
the pool this summer or I would never of had the money to buy the Gas
lolololol...........
I also bought 2 more kerosene heaters slightly used and I have my firewood
cut and stacked for the winter season and am preparing a disaster kit to
keep nearby just for power outages so I can keep light and warmth in my
home in all seasons......
I guess there is some kind of breaker/pigtail switch that hooks up to your
house just to hook your generator to making it possible to power more
things like the well for instance I just don't know if it is possible to
hook up the furnace ( I don't know the wattage)...........
It was kind of funny the first nite because now that I finally had a
generator I didn't have enough cords to hook everything up with lolol
It was like the apocalypse driving through my dark town at nite , people
were being great such as treating all intersections like 4 ways stop signs
except for a few blu by you's that thought it was open season ??? I found
a little neighborhood grocery store open that was running off of
generators similar to mine and stocked up on milk and bread and lunchmeat
and I even got some more Ramen Noodles !!!!!
Our Power came on yesterday .......wahooooo............
Anything similars to any of youse guys ???
