I never said it kept curving, that would be some kind of ridiculous,
mike massey whirlpool masse. It goes straight for 1-2 balls lengths,
turns or curves very slightly, and continues straight. I believe Dr.
Dave increased the small curve amount in his latest calculation on
"ball turn."
Now you're saying it goes straight? I though balls never went straight
on a pooltable? That's what you claimed before.
So now it goes straight, then magically "turns" then goes straight
again? Dr Dave's proof said nothing of this!!!!
Try to keep your stories straight.
Ed
FWIW, Dr. Dave's derivation resulted in a sideways displacement, for a
given shot, based on shot velocity (No, he didn't mention "power").
That was, IIRC, effectively a double integral over distance, which would
imply a parabola. Parabolas don't "go straight, curve, then go
straight again," so your understanding of what happens is very different
from what the good doctor ordered.

Didnt say they never went straight, but almost. If its a straight
shot, then its straight. If theres a cut, then theres a curve. Tiny,
maybe even unseen, but something more than zero. That has been what I
have said.
Thats an interesting point, dean. Perhaps there is some
miscalculation, but I cannot question the math. In my opinion, the
only way for the ob to continuously curve like that would be masse,
and this effect is far from masse, its nearly its opposite. Maybe he
is describing the effect itself as its happening, as forming a
slightly curved pattern for a split second, rather than describe the
entire path of the ball. If that split second curve went on and on,
now youre talking circles. I dont think dave means that, but thats
just my opinion.
After the spin transfer takes place, there is sometimes enough
spin left on the object ball to get a slight curve, but only if it has
enough spin, the right cloth, and the right speed. Too much spin is no
good, also too little is no good. Too fast is also bad because the
ball doesnt have the chance to grab the cloth. Too slow wont work,
because you cant generate enough spin that way, and at some point,
slow also puts you at the mercy of the table. There are so many
adjustments required to get it all perfect, that it becomes almost
impossible without practice for alot of players.
